Numerical Ocean Model Development

in the Division of
Meteorology & Physical Oceanography

Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science
University of Miami, 4600 Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami, FL 33149

Ocean modeling activities within the Division of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography at RSMAS include model development, research, and graduate instruction, using models of various architecture and vertical coordinate representation as the principal tools. Support for this work is provided by the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Ocean Partnership Program.

Numerical Models
Miami Isopycnic Coordinate Ocean Model
A primitive equation ocean general circulation model
using density as the vertical coordinate.
Hybrid Coordinate Oceam Model
A primitive equation ocean general circulation model
using density, pressure, and sigma coordinates in the vertical.
SEOM Spectral Element Ocean Model
A family of ocean models relying on the spectral element method
for spatial discretization.
